~3.5/5[More of my reviews are available on my blog, Geeky Reading, to which there's a link on my profile.]
I’ve read a couple other of Takada’s stories, and have had this on my eye for a while. I finally got my hands on the full series, and plan to be making quick work of it.
This volume started out a bit slow, but relatively quickly got interesting.
Yuniko, a fifteen-year-old, is obsessed with Akira Nanae, a famous movie star who died sixteen years. And she’s determined to get all of his worldly possession, and has ended up having to steal them from the people that have them. Which includes taking the newly-awarded trophy away from Ryu Eba, a newly recognized and popular actor only two years older than her, on the night he’s given it. And that starts their friendship.
He gets it back, but teases her into trying to steal it again, and somehow they end up running into each other several more times, and then he takes a job at the theatre near where she lives, and where her best friend works.
I liked Yuniko. I’d already guessed the reason behind her obsession, but it still left me satisfied and looking forward to more. She has a pet flying squirrel, Kamui, her little apprentice who’s adorable. I like the few friends of hers that I’ve met so far, and look forward to getting to know them better. Her mother is in the hospital, and has been for as long as she can remember, and she goes to see her, for the first time, at the end of this volume and I’m looking forward to seeing how that works out. I like Ryu Eba, and am looking forward to seeing their relationship and attraction develop. Really looking forward to that.
This was a pretty good volume, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Wild Act Book 1 Rie Takada 9781591823742 Books Reviews
Suprisingly cute story with more heart than the premise might indicate. An obsessive fan finds clever ways to steal personal items belonging to a famous movie star that died young. There's actually a heartfelt reason for her obsession and a disturbing secret that is waiting for her behind closed doors. [...] Drawn and written for girls, but with plenty of smart-alec humor and intense theif action that could attract a wide audience.
Unique story, likeable characters, awesome drawings...what more can I say? Wild Act by Rie Takada is on my top five list!
Yuniko Sakuraba is your typical teenage girl- one who has an obsession for her favorite actor. In Yuniko's case, her idol, Akira Nanae, passed away sixteen years ago in a plane crash. Yuniko has a thing for his prized possessions- even if it means having to obtain some help from her genius friend Tokio Niwa, steal from high-security places, land on foot from three stories high, and deceive popular actor Ryu Eba. Ryu Eba is the so-called "New Nanae", who goes from being one of the people on Yuniko's black list to someone on the top of her list.
I must applaud Rie Takada!
Wild Act trully gets better & better after each volume. The first volume is merely an introduction of Yuniko & Ryu's initial meeting, & for you to get to know each characters. I have to admit when I first read the first few chapters of the first volume, I thought it was a manga about some silly obsessed star struck girl!
However, I am glad I really gave it a chance & purchased all 5 volumes! After each volume you really get to understand Yuniko's obsession with Akira Nanae's personal things, why she wants to have all of them so badly.
Ryu Eba's encounter with Yuniko did not end after Yuniko succesfully stole Ryu's award for being best actor & being labeled as the new Akira Nanae. It looks like Yuniko didn't just succesfully steal Ryu's award, but his heart as well. But will Ryu ever get to win Yuniko's heart who is so obsessed with Akira?
Yuniko & Ryu's relationship develop, their bond gets stronger with each volume. You will deffinitely laugh & cheer for Yuniko & Ryu!
Great manga!!!!
UPDATE FEBRUARY 13, 2018 I don't generally read Manga or Manhwa anymore, because as a Bible-believing Christian as I've grown and studied the Bible, there is just too much immoral stuff going on in them. This is why I avoid anime, manhwa, and manga in general now, with a few benign exceptions such a Hana Yori Dango. This is why I honestly don’t watch, listen to, or read media in general anymore.
ORIGINAL DEC 30, 2003 REVIEW
NOTE No matter how valiant Yuniko's efforts may be, I cannot justify her thievery anymore.
Wild Act gets better with each Volume, unlike most books or manga where the quality is great for the first couple, and then drops off after that. Wild Act is first-rate manga that continues the fun and interesting story line and characters even as the story progresses, with many character and plot twist throughout, and abundant humor, it is never dull. The cover may doesn't actually tell you much about the manga itself, so don't let that turn you off.
In the first Volume we are introduced to Yuniko, a total fanatic of the late actor Akira Nanae, the first and only Japanese Actor to ever really cross-over into America(not in reality, but in this story). Yuniko is on a mission to get back EVERYTHING that Akira Nanae EVER owned, and to do so, she must steal his belongings from homes, studios, and banks. On a mission to gain Akiras Golden Academy Award, she attends the awards, but she set up the wrong dressing room, because she never thought Ryu Eba(The New Nanae), would win the award. The blunder causes them to meet, and at first it seems he is just out to cause her trouble and annoy her by throwing obstacles left and right to keep her from gatherin her Nanae's former belongings. Soon Yuniko is worried she may be getting off-focus of collecting Akira's belongings, because her mind keeps going back to Ryu.
It is difficult to do the series justice by summarizing this first volume, but just give the series a shot, I love it and my brother and his friend love it too. There's plenty of action and twist in the plot to keep both guys and girl interested, and a love story to boot!
God Bless ~Amy
